This study is set as a theological look at Ephrem the Syrian. After a general introduction, the author systematically examines a number of theological topics based on Ephrem’s poetry: the doctrine of God, the creation of the world, the Trinity, Christology, the Holy Spirit, angels, demons, the nature of man, sin, the freedom of man and grace of God, soteriology, the state of man after death, and the final judgement. The (vocalized) Syriac passages, some quite lengthy, are cited from the Roman edition of Ephrem’s works (reprint available from Gorgias Press) and translated into Latin. This small volume will be of interest to historical theologians and to students and scholars of Syriac literature.

The Rabbis’ King-Parables: Midrash From the Third-Century Roman Empire examines the ancient Rabbis at work using parables about kings; parables that reflect the Rabbis' ideas about the role of the ruler in society, and the relationship of humanity to God. It is the first systematic attempt to read the parables as sources for Roman history in over 100 years.
