The product of Heath Lowry’s many years of work on Ottoman tax registers (tahrir defterleri) and legal codes (kanunnameler) have been collected here in this collection of articles. Lowry’s research - ‘defterology’ - is focused on urban history but he has also addressed monastic history, and the papers here reflect these concentrations.
