Rifat Bali’s Turkish Students' Movements and the Turkish Left in the 1950s-1960s presents the US State Department’s view of left-wing activities in Turkey during the Cold War. Bali’s motivation behind collecting these documents from the National Archives and Records Administration in Maryland is to add a non-Turkish view to the existing sources. This volume contains American consular and ambassadorial reports, dispatches and communiqués and will be of interest to scholars of Turkey’s social, political and cultural history, especially in terms of its leftist movements. The documents are divided into three sections: Turkish university students; the Turkish left; and Dogan Avcioglu and the journal Yön. Additionally, Bali has compiled a bibliography for further reading on the subject.
